An old saying has it that when guns fire, muses
are silent. But when the Nazis invaded the Soviet Union on June 22, 1991,
Soviet artists took up their brushes, pencils and chisels and directed
them against the enemy.

NO ONE IS FORGOTTEN,

The Soviet art of those years is permeated with
patriotic ideas. The tide of patriotism sweeping the nation inspired painters
to create works of art reflecting the heroic deeds of Soviet people. War-time
art is a tribute to those killed on the battlefield or tortured in Nazi
camps, a cry of lamentation for the bleeding homeland.
