MADE IN RUSSIA
RUSSIAN BALLISTIC MISSILE TOPOL-M
Russian ballistic missile Topol-M have been carried out at the experimental
range Plesetsk in North West Russia. The aim of the launches was to once
again check the performance characteristics of the Topol ballistic missile
which is unmatched anywhere in the world. The launches were also aimed
at testing the missiles capabilities to overcome anti-missile sites. All
aims were achieved. All preparation and flight parameters were carried
out. After the launch from a silo a Topol missile hit a training target
in the Kamchatka Peninsula in 24 minutes. Topol-M is a solid-fuel three-stage
missile. There are two versions of the missile - one for silos and the
other for mobile launching installations. The mass of the missile is 47
tons. The missile has an autonomous control system. Its combat capabilities
are nearly two times higher than those of other intercontinental ballistic
missiles and the accuracy of hitting the target is twice as great.
The first two Topol-M missiles were put on combat duty in the region
of Saratov in December 1997 after four test launches and by the end of
1998 10 missiles were put on combat duty. By that time the Strategic Rocket
Forces had carried out 6 successful test launches.
The launch is evidence that Russia has a weapon which can ensure the
country's security in the 21st century .
A MULTIPURPOSE LIGHT HELICOPTER
The Ka-60 Kasatka
helicopter is an aircraft of the 21st century. There are blueprints for
the production of its military- and civilian-purpose models. The multipurpose
light helicopter can do well as a reconnaissance and air landing aircraft
and may be used in troop training programs. It is meant for the transportation
of weapons and ammunition to theaters of combat action, the evacuation
of wounded servicemen, the protection and patroling of certain areas, and
search and rescue operations. It may, with certain adjustments, be also
used for radioelectronic jamming and VIP travel, by firemen and in high
security and autonomous navigation operations.
Its maximal takeoff weight is put at 6500 kilograms, cruising speed
at 245 kilometers per hour, flying ceiling at 2100 meters and maximal flying
range at 700 kilometers. Its flying range may be increased with the installation
of two more propellant tanks. Two tonnes of payload fit into its hull.
The Kamov design center is, in the meantime, concentrating on a civilian-purpose
cargo and passenger Ka-62 helicopter. It has, together with the Italian
company Agusta, been focusing for the past three or four years, on the
helicopter's foreign market model. Both Ka-60 and Ka-62 aircraft will be
produced by the Orenburg-based Strela plant .
THE NEW MISSILE IS TO CHANGE THE CHARACTER
OF NAVAL WARFARE
Tests of a new missile are almost complete at the design bureau Novator
in the Russian city of Ekaterinburg.
The new missile is certain to cardinally change the character of naval
warfare. With this missile a ship or a submarine will be able in the near
future to hit any types of ships from a safe distance.
The two-stage missile is 6.2 meters long like torpedoes used by navies
of most countries. It may be launched from the launch installation of a
ship or the torpedo section of a submarine.
After gaining height the first stage of the missile separates itself
from the missile, the engine is started, the wings and the tail unit unfold.
The height is reduced to 10-15 meters above sea-level and the missile is
guided by its homing system.
The final part of the flight with a pathfinder warhead is at a height
of 5 meters above sea-level and this almost completely rules out the possibility
of any air-defence weapon hitting the missile.
With a relatively small take-off weight of 1570 kilogrammes the missile
has a range of 300 kilometres and a powerful 450 kilogramme high-explosive
section. This increases the likelihood of hitting large ships. The missile's
small weight makes it possible to place a large set of missiles on board
a small ship .
THE NEW BE 200 FLYING BOAT
The main function
of the plane is to fight forest fires. The plane has characteristics unmatched
anywhere in the world. It can take on board up to 12 tons of water and
discharge it over the fire area. The choice of the height is of 1000, 500
and 100 metres .
ENDOGENOUS BREATHING
Training equipment to stimulate the internal reserves of the human
body is one of the latest exhibits at Moscow Expo Center. According to
a new theory put forward by the Russian physicist and doctor Ghennady Petrakovich,
only the lungs use the oxygen of the air, the cells of the body produce
their own oxygen during the oxidation of saturated fatty acids. The Russian
biochemist Vladimir Frolov has drawn on this theory to invent training
equipment that stimulates endogenous, that is internal breathing. Moscow-based
company producing the equipment is known as Dinamika. During training we
breathe through water and gradually increase the period of expiration.
As a result the volume of oxygen in the lungs decreases while the volume
of carbon dioxide increases, thereby stimulating endogenous breathing in
the cells. In this way we reach the stage of diaphragmatic respiration,
which is what we were born with. Gradually the body increases its immunity,
metabolism improves to an extent never achieved by other means, and the
blood becomes more saturated with oxygen. Findings to date show that training
of this kind cures a variety of diseases and rejuvenates the body. It offers
reliable protection from oncologic troubles, atherosclerosis and stress.
It takes only two to four months to learn endogenous respiration with the
help to the Frolov apparatus. More than 600 companies in Russia and other
countries sell it .
